Environmental Authorisation

Application Accomodation Is your application an accomodation of generation and transmission.

Generation infrastructure Is your application an accommodation for generation only

Transmission or distribution Select yes if your application is for transmission or no if it is for distribution.

Generation infrastructure Is the project located within a renewable energy development zone (REDZ)?

Transmission infrastructure Is project transmission infrastructure (regardless of capacity) sited within a strategic transmission corridor (STC)?

Generation infrastructure Is the electricity output from the proposed development 20 megawatts or more, excluding where such development of facilities or infrastructure is for photovoltaic installations and occurs within an urban area?

SIP Is the project a Strategic Integrated Project (SIP)?

See this link for information on REDZ and STCs. Consult the DFFE screening tool assess environmental sensitivities. See the DFFE screening tool for more information.

Information on SIPS can be found here

SANRAL Is road access or a enchrochment permit required?

Water Use Licence

National Water Act Does project trigger any of the following clauses in the National Water Act?

  • Section 21 (g) disposing of waste in a manner which may detrimentally impact on a water resource.
  • Section 21 (i) altering the bed, banks, courses, or characteristics of a watercourse.

Note that water use under section 21 (c) and 21 (i) will be subjected to the risk assessment protocol contemplated in Appendix A of Gazette no. 40229, Notice no. 509, 26 August 2016. If the outcome of the risk assessment is ‘moderate’ or ‘high’ risk, then the applicant must apply for a water use licence.

SALA consent

SALA consent Is the project sited on agricultural land as defined in terms of Section 1 of the Subdivision of Agricultural Land Act (SALA)?

Developers can consult the DFFE screening tool to assess whether their project is sited on agricultural land.

DMRE Section 53 approval

DMRE Section 53 approval Are mineral or petroleum rights held in respect of land on which a renewable energy development is to take place?

Developers should consult the DMRE prior to submitting an application to understand if rights are held for the land planned for the proposal project.
